Review of The Gentlemen (2020) by Tvjerry — 25 Jan 2020
Matthew McConaughey heads this mostly-British cast as an American in London, who runs a very profitable marijuana empire. When he decides to sell it, all manner of schemes comprise the twisty plot. Given that the director is Guy Ritchie, whose career started with this kind of brash, violent, streetwise scenario, it's interesting to see him back at it.
Albeit, a bit more restrained in the pacing and violence. There's still plenty of fun in some of the characterizations (esp. Hugh Grant) and some moments of cinematic snazz. Even though Ritchie has certainly mellowed a bit, he hasn't lost his ability to craft an enjoyable, offbeat caper.
