Review of The General's Daughter (1999) by Joel N — 08 Aug 2009
This thing doesn't work as a Southern Gothic tale and has a few moments when it doesn't even work as a thriller. Mostly this is because it doesn't explore the social issues it raises. It seems to present each of these without actually condemning them--and eventually revels in its salaciousness.
I haven't read the book, but I assume this is another case of the book being better than the movie.
