Review of The Gauntlet (1977) by Jay L — 13 Jun 2011
"NAG...NAG...NAG...".
Clint Eastwood's action classic, is a wickedly pulse-pounding action-packed thrill-a-second roller coaster of bullets, mayhem and surprising romance. The Gauntlet was an inspiration for future films such as "True Lies" and "The Long Kiss Goodnight". It's an electrifying ride through Vegas and the surrounding desert that's packed with literally enough bullets to bring down a house. Eastwood directs and stars, and he has never crafted such a complete blast of intense and high-flying action since. Its loaded with plentiful wit, often humorous, full of one-liners, thunderously intense and just a complete all-around blast of classic cinematic entertainment. Eastwood has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with in front of the camera, he's proved that his talents are just as awesome behind the camera and scenes. A true late 70's action-packed powerhouse that ends in a whirlwind of bullets and a flurry of romance. It's an exceptional action-packed romance that doesn't let off the gas pedal for one single second. Clip-emptying fun that never runs out of fuel.
Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke have some great comedic chemistry together. They were great together in Sudden Impact, and even better in The Gauntlet. A made for the movies couple of brilliant talent and humor.
