Review of The Game (1997) by J.b. R — 02 Jan 2012
The Game is one of my favorite Fincher films. It succeeds mostly because it eschews commentary and instead gives us a fast-paced thriller that simply insinuates what we already know. Michael Douglas is perfect in the lead (a sort of retribution for his Wall Street Gecko character).
The design of the film and the extensive night photography really bring out the tension and point to the attention to detail that have become on of the hallmark's of Fincher's talent as a filmmaker.
The only downside here are some incredibly large plot holes as well as an ending that doesn't quite live up to the rest of the film. Overall an excellent film.
