Review of The Game (1997) by Mloy X — 18 Jul 2012
[Nicholas van Orten loses a shoe when climbing a fire-escape ladder].
Nicholasn(Douglas): There goes a thousand dollars.
Christine (Unger): Your shoes cost a thousand dollars?
Nicholas (Douglas): That one did.
When my life gets to the point when I'm so damn rich that the perfect present for me is to completely and utterly mind-f*ck me, please, I'm begging everyone to just shoot me..... it would be more merciful than this elaborate, twisted Cthulu-esque torture. Jeezzus...... But other than that, this was a completely awesome film, a little sick and a hint deranged but really, really good. Thoroughly enjoyable and I didn't even mind that the over-blown, wind bad Sean "I'm-a-serious-actor-now" (whatever Spicoli!) Penn was in it. Although, I did guess that ********************* SPOILER ALERT*****************.
The girl, Christine (Deborah Kara Unger) was also part of the scheme, because as Sun Tzu said in the art of war, "If a spy from the other side comes to you with news about an attack and that attack comes to fruition, kill the spy." The reasoning being that the enemy has turned the spy or has bought their loyalty and the information that has been fed to you is lull you into a false sense of security in order to gain your trust........... I know, maybe that's a bit of a stretch but I see what I see. :D.
