Review of The Game (1997) by Fritz F — 07 Nov 2015
A legitimately original and thrilling film with a destined message on complecancy & narcissistic uncertainty that all goes against itself and is pretty much ruined with its awful resolution.
At that point I started to become angry with how someone must have thought that an ending like this would be totally okay to shit on what a film is trying to say for the majority of the run time, and actually did so convincingly with atmosphere and unhinged acting.
Once the conclusion comes, everything falls apart and the implausibilites rise higher than the heights this film could have reached.
3 stars is a little generous for this film that disintegrated the story and flipped off the viewer by the end, but with the incredible first two acts - it can't quite be fair to give it less.
For a Fincher film, I can't even think an ending like this was green-lit.
How disappointing.
