Review of The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden (2014) by Roxanne R — 20 Sep 2014
A true crime tale of jealousy, hate, greed and it was never solved! In 1929, German doctor Friedrich Ritter abandoned his practice and moved to the Islands, feeling he needed a new start in a faraway place.
He brought with him one of his patients, Dore Strauch: both of them left spouses behind. They became international celebrities inspiring others to move to Galapagos so a man named Heinz Wittmer arrived in 1931 with his teenage son and pregnant wife Margret.
The next arrival changed everything: Baroness Eloise Wehrborn de Wagner-Bosquet with her two German lovers, Robert Philippson and Rudolf Lorenz, as well as an Ecuadorian, Manuel Valdivieso, presumably hired to do all the work.
The flamboyant Baroness set up a small homestead, named it "Hacienda Paradise" and announced her plans to build a grand hotel. The story continues from there and let me say that I have a good idea of who killed who but for now I echo the words of Ken Turan from the LA Times: ""Move over, Charles Darwin, when it comes to great tales about the Galapagos, you've got company.
" Recommended!
