Review of The Future (2013) by Brendan N — 25 May 2013

A simple story made rich and complex. If you have ever felt lost, unmoored, purposeless, yearning or disconnected, you will relate to the characters. The simple humanity of their plight is elevated to the level of myth when the filmmaker brings in mystery and magic: spirituality--connection, purpose and power--are voiced by such unusual characters as a wounded cat, a lonely old man and the moon.

The movie is a journey that transforms the couple without providing a tidy ending. It is moving, and it is both real and far-fetched, akin to Melancholia in that respect.
