Review of The Funhouse (1981) by Mike P — 25 Oct 2010
Unfairly labeled a slasher film because it came out during that period and featuring teens being stalked The FunHouse is much more than a brainless slasher. The set up is classic, kids decide to sneak into the funhouse after closing time for the thrill of it, were they witness a murder through the floorboards.
After being exposed as witnesses to the murder the kids must make it out before they are killed. Tobe Hooper fills this film with visual flair and the Funhouse itself is designed for fright. The murderous creature who's look is exposed very early on is a wonderfully imaginative creature thanks to the Rick Baker design.
There are even hints of The Texas Chainsaw throughout with the dysfunctioal family elements.
