Review of The Fundamentals of Caring (2016) by Dylan C — 29 May 2017
A lightweight dramady that delivers heavyweight results. Paul Rudd's unique charm and his ability to stabilize a film are on showcase. Rudd and Craig Roberts have a believable and sincere chemistry.
Rudd and Roberts have a stunningly effective way to bring humor to a serious situation. Director Rob Burnett should get great praise for delivering such a witty, heartfelt, offbeat and effective film and finding the cast to pull it off.
It's a shame that a film like this doesn't have more widespread acclaim. The story is so unique that instead of a strained, overplayed road trip cliche about friends and redemption, Rudd, Roberts and even Selena Gomez deliver so astoundingly that you overlook the cliches.
A powerful take on dealing with the cards life deals you, the ability to make friends, find love and seek out the path you're meant for.
