Review of The Full Monty (1997) by Andrew F — 05 Jan 2009
CONSENSUS: A surprisingly charming, human, and downright funny Oscar-nominated British film. With a mostly no name cast, this movie does wonders at capturing the audience, who is able to connect with the characters as just regular people desperately trying to make a living.
The premise alone is an attention grabber, yet it is presented in a tasteful, enjoyable fashion and is not more-or-less a male SHOWGIRLS. The title, though meaning "full nudity", speaks more so of the characters themselves and the message of giving your all.
Though the shock factor has worn off since its release and it isn't necessarily memorable, it nonetheless deservingly grabbed a Best Picture nomination at the 1997 Academy Awards. MY GRADE: A-.
