Review of The Frozen Ground (2013) by Josh F — 01 Jun 2014
A solid script, solid performances by John Cusack and Nicholas Cage, solid direction, and an all-around solid film which documents the valiant capture of Alaskan serial killer, Robert Hansen. A couple high notes: First of all, the film in no way glorified Hansen in his killings.
It truly portrayed him as an evil, sick man, and we felt sympathy for the victims rather than he. Second, I was very intrigued by the fact that they had a name of the prime and only suspect of the case in the first few minutes of the film, so even though it's formulaic, it was more about uncovering evidence and narrowing in on a man rather than having to track down his name, and they milked out a lot of suspense and drama from that.
Solid crime thriller.
