Review of The Frighteners (1996) by Joe S — 13 Sep 2008
I saw this solely because Peter Jackson directed it. It was fun, but not a masterpiece. It had a familiar offbeat feel, with elements of Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, and Men In Black, and the general feel of a Tim Burton flick, but the quality was mixed.
..it was weird, and fun, but it was rarely very scary or very funny, and some bits, such as the FBI agent, felt wrong and really out of place. The plot was a mix of the predictable and sometimes surprising, and the special effects mostly hold up well, considering the movie is 12 years old.
Worth watching if you're in the mood, but only once.
