Review of The Frighteners (1996) by Ryan B — 13 Mar 2009
The Frighteners is a really fun movie. Funny and dark, with lots of great visuals and great characters. Jeffrey Combs was a treat, as always, giving a wonderfully quirky performance as an unhinged FBI agent (think Fox Mulder on crack).
I really need to watch more of Peter Jackson's early work. Both The Frighteners and Bad Taste have a wacky, gross-out charm that's just a blast to watch, and I have to say I prefer these movies to the director's more serious work on Lord Of The Rings and King Kong.
