Review of The Frighteners (1996) by Jacob G — 01 Apr 2010
Decent, though too long (as Jackson is prone to do). Granted, I saw the director's cut... and it should have stayed with the (doubtlessly much shorter) theatrical version. Jackson needs to learn that more isn't necessarily better. I would have preferred a movie that was truly scary, rather than being a comedy horror. I never got attached to the Michael J Fox character, and Trini Alvarado's character was remarkably unbelievable. Jeffrey Combs was brilliant in his role as a psychotic government agent.
Also, hearing Sonic Youth's cover of Superstar in one of the scenes was a nice treat.
