Review of The French Connection (1971) by Andy K — 28 Jul 2009
Gene Hackman takes on drug smugglers almost single-handedly in perhaps the best crime thriller of the 1970s. New York is a character in itself as the famous car chase scene continues to be much vaunted as one of the best.
Bullitt rivals FC in this department but fails to back this up with a film that ticks all the boxes. Superb entertainment, with an almost-as-good-as sequel.
