Review of The French Connection (1971) by John M — 20 Jun 2013
Rivetingly fun film about two cops' relentless pursuit of their "gut feel" about a big drug deal going down. Dystopic vision of NYC in early 70s makes this a bit of a timepiece. And Gene Hackman is, as always, one of a kind and totally great.
Only spoiled by Hollywood's achilles' heel: ludicrousness. I mean, cops find big-time stash of heroin in car, then GIVE CAR & STASH BACK TO CRIMINAL IN ORDER TO BUST THE WHOLE GANG LATER?! Mmmmmmmn I don't think so.
