When this film first came out I was too young to see it because it was rated R. I heard for a long time that this gritty crime drama was really good and it's Gene Hackman's break out role as an overzealous narcotics detective.

There are a lot of scenes of police brutality. It also starred Roy Scheider, one of my favorite actors, who plays Hackman's partner. Together they relentlessly go after a French drug dealer. The scenes of late 1960s and early 1970s New York made me nostalgic because I grew up in New York during that time.

This review of The French Connection (1971) was written by on 18 Jun 2015.

The French Connection has generally received very positive reviews.
