Review of The French Connection (1971) by Zachary S — 04 Jul 2015
This film overall was decent...but it didn't live up to the hype I had originally anticipated.
In reference to the "chase scene," I finished watching the film and went "oh...that was the chase scene??" The famous scene where the man gets shot going up the steps and falls down was equally as anti-climatic and left me going "I thought that was going to be...better...".
The production was average. However I noticed several out of focus shots that kind of annoyed me. The acting was good and the whole (now) throwback, 70s cop vibe was pretty decent. But the film just didn't leave me saying "Man that was GREAT!" The ending also left me going "what?!?" as it seemingly ended too abruptly. In my opinion they could have showed more, perhaps even filming the end titles (after all, why "say" what you can show?).
Overall, this is an 'ok' movie. See it if you want. Though you're not missing a whole lot if you don't and the world will not cave in on itself....
