Review of The French Connection (1971) by Tj R — 01 Mar 2009
Having seen lots of cop/heist movies that came after this, the story can feel a bit 'derivative' and transparent. I did love, though, the realism of the film relative to more recent films which feel the need to fill the screen with special effects and give everyone superhuman abilities (I'm looking at you, Bourne trilogy, even though I like the films).
The degree of panic and havoc caused by the car/train chase was refreshing to see.
