Review of The French Connection (1971) by Adam G — 27 Jul 2009
Classic. Hackman's character is an all-timer, great. I'm upset at the BD transfer, they did some crazy ridiculous chroma blur, so anytime there's a hard chroma edge, like around his Santa suit, the chroma bleeds out all over the place.
Very strange, it almost looks like it would if their lenses were really cheap and spilling all over themselves, except that the luma channel is sharp, at least within the limits of the fast film they used which is really grainy.
Thankfully they left the grain intact. Anyway, it was cool to see this movie after just having been in chicago. Hilarious that they pretended it was new-york though. It is completely chicago.
