Review of The Frankenstein Theory (2013) by Jason S — 03 Mar 2013
Okay, the concept of this movie is actually pretty good. Put aside with great steady camera work and a score, this movie isn't trying very hard to pretend to be a found footage film. That gets very distracting. Either commit to it or not.
Having a known horror actor as the lead is also a mistake, as I knew Lemche from Frinal Destination 3 and Ginger Snaps. Found Footage films work when it's all nobodies.
The rest of the cast is good, minus the over acting dude they interview along the way. He's horrible. The humor is good, and like I said the story is that Frankenstein's monster was based on an actual monster, not just a book.
That they stop calling him the monster, and go for Frankenstein after ten minutes, was also annoying. Clearly they know the difference, and they were correct at the start, so why dumb it down?
You really don't see much until well after the hour mark, and I think when you do, it really kills the movie. The final shot is awful. Less is more people.
The teens always make the dumbest choices too. They split up FOUR times and somebody dies every single time. Duh.
I loved the effort, but in the end, the film just isn't very good.
