Review of The Fox and the Hound 2 (2006) by Éric I — 10 Jan 2012
Well there went 69 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. Tod and Copper are back, and this time, Copper discovers that he's got singing talent and joins a band of stray dogs (it may not be a coincidence that Dixie reminds me of Rita from Oliver & Company) and his new life proposes a challenge to his friendship with Tod.
Well, there you have it then. The tranquil, pacific setting of the original film, which gave the impression of being nestled in the middle of a remote area, away from urbanization, is replaced by a country fair filled with large fun rides, dog (and cow) contests and everything needed to contradict the setting described earlier.
Every scene is overflowing with comical gags, all characters engage in clown-like behaviors, a Ferris wheel crashes straight into a building... how much more action could you have in a country-style film? The animation, though lively and rather elaborate, suffers from very unappealing, over-saturated colors that make the movie appear stuffy and rather childish, but at least they've done a good job matching the voice talents to those of the characters in the 1981.
I own this only because it came packed with the original film in a 2011 DVD release, and though I don't particularly think the original film demonstrates good writing, it's a masterpiece compared to this obvious attempt at a quick cash-in in Disney's modern style.
