Why in the world we needed a) so many attempts to convince us this was true, and b) recreations on a split screen with the supposedly true footage is beyond me. The second one in particular takes one completely out of the movie experience, as if you should be comparing just how accurately they did the "fake" stuff.
All that being said, some of the "real" footage builds a little bit of creepiness in spite of all the rest, more and more as the film progresses, enough to make this not a total waste of time.
