Review of The Fourth Kind (2009) by Cade H — 06 Aug 2011
I think this movie worked out better in someone's head, but was probably developed due to a marketing idea from the trend of Paranormal Activity type movies. That hurt it. This movie seems to want to emphasize the real life footage part of the story and the supposed real background of characters, which really just makes it that much more plot hole riddled. And because so much has to revolve around supposed real footage, there is so much at the end that has to be summarized by end narrative text. Bad sign - but again, it's trying to pretend it is a real life story.
Nothing in this movie is creepy or scary - except the damn owl. It was a pretty brilliant idea of that 720 or whatever long panning shot.
And the real positive here is the director, who was very creative in putting so many different assemblies and visual trick on screen that someone really needs to give him a good action script or a limited set thriller and let him loose.
