Review of The Four Feathers (2002) by Travis R — 07 Jul 2007
To be honest, when I first saw this movie I was pissed. The guy goes through hell just so he can be accepted by a hyper judgemental society and so his looser girl freind wont be embarassed around him? I figured that he should have just given everyone the finger and moved on with his life.
But that just shows how differently honor is veiwed today than the period in which this movie takes place. This is a movie about regaining honor and self respect, and the extremes to which people are willing to go to help their freinds.
It's got it's fair share of action, but it also manages to stay incredibly realistic and honest about the conditions these men faced, making the movie more tragic than a side-of-your-seat-it's-time-to-kick-ass flick that it could have been made into.
Which is good only on the condition that the veiwer is able to recognize and apreciate the movie's stances on honor and freindship.
