Review of The Four Feathers (2002) by Emil K — 23 Nov 2008
This is one of the greatest epics ever filmed. A Larger than life adventure that truly has that real passion of great film-maker at the peak of his powers. Director Shekhar Kapur Nearly succeeds to translate this long and demanding story in to big screen flawlessly, but does just some minor mistakes when he balances between two countries and three leads.
Otherwise this is just solid gold that has one of the best performances by Heath Ledger. Legendary photographer Robert Richardson who shot also films like JFK, The Aviator and Kill Bill vol 1-2, turns desert into art with this film.
Never ever have we seen it shot like this beautifully like he does here. Desert comes a person of its own in this film. You also have to admire the musical effort by James Horner who gives one of his best scores here.
Shekhar Kapur is one of the most talented directors working today and this film along Elizabeth stands a strong proof of that. The Four Feathers is a film that should be seen from big screen for maximum effect.
It is one of last great epics that Hollywood has produced in last 50-years.
