Review of The Founder (2016) by Lori D — 13 Aug 2017
Held up by Keaton's golden performance, the film in effect has the taste of a McDonald's meal: You enjoy the juicier bits while ignoring the dark fact that this whole thing boils down to a commercial.
Case in point: The film's overall criticism of the corporatism and moral shadiness that fueled McD's incredible international growth is ultimately undercut by the idyllic presentation of the restaurant's ostensibly innocent origin (which is also the movie's most enjoyable sequence) at the hands of two creative, hard-working, all-American brothers-who just so happened to turn their kitchen into a factory and their cooks into machines.
