Review of The Founder (2016) by Jaime L — 22 Jan 2017
I was quite interested to see what kind of performance Michael Keaton was going to give after Birdman and I wasn't disappointed. I wasn't as impressed as I was with his previous work but it was still the part of The Founder that is to be remembered.
He played the slimy Ray Kroc well and his ruthless path to wrest control of the McDonalds name away from the brothers who started the restaurant. Unfortunately beyond that I simply wasn't very invested.
I feel like this could have been done as a short film instead of a feature length picture and still gotten the story across. Plus I found there to be an anti-corporate message that was rather heavy handed, the innocent hardworking small business owners who just want a quality product and the guy who wants to ruin that quality in the quest for money.
Got to be rather one note after awhile. I suppose I would recommend The Founder to those who want to see Keaton perform and to see the dirty laundry of McDonalds history.
