Review of The Forgotten (2004) by Brian K — 14 Sep 2012
Telly (Julianne Moore) is trying to come to terms with her young son's death, but her husband Jim (Anthony Edwards) and her doctor, Doctor Munce (Gary Sinise) keep telling her she never had a son. As she tries to find old photographs - they're mysteriously gone. The videos of her son growing up - also gone. She thinks they're hiding something, and sets out to find the truth with Ash (Dominic West), a man who lost his daughter in the same accident. At first he doesn't remember having a daughter, but Telly convinces him and makes him remember.
As they set out to find the truth, they're being chased not just by the government, but by another entity that's far more powerful.
I liked the premise of the film, and I think Julianne Moore is one of the best actresses out there, but the second half of the film kills any validity the first part held. When you find out what's really behind what's going on, it leaves a hole in your heart and you really don't care how it all turns out in the end. A very great idea with a very poor ending.
