Review of The Forest (2016) by Mackenzie R — 08 Jan 2016
An uninspired story with a plot more confused than the main actress's understanding of her lines, The Forest was probably one of the worst horror movies I've seen in a long time. The scares were far and few between, and most of them made no sense in the context of the movie.
(Not a single one of them caused me to jump, and I'm as easily startled as horror fans come.) The actors couldn't seem to get themselves interested enough in their roles, but I can't really blame them.
The dialogue was cliché and there was little characterization to speak of - even less so than typically seen in the genre - not to mention a rushed, horrifically forced sister dynamic that Dormer's character just couldn't seem to shut up about.
That might as well have been her entire character. "I have a twin sister" was the only identifiable trait the lead character had. Unfortunately for Dormer, "being a twin" is not a strong enough attribute to carry a character through an entire movie.
The Forest was not scary, not interesting, and certainly not something that I can recommend to someone in good conscience.
