Review of The Forest (2016) by Kellie C — 04 Mar 2016
As a big horror movie fan, I have waded through what seems like a massive amount of awful horrors. I went into the cinema with a big love of Natalie Dormer and extremely low expectations given the terrible reviews I'd seen for this film. I honestly was pleasantly surprised however. The story was interesting, I actually found myself caring about what happened to Sara's sister, I wanted to find out where she was. I was also interested in Sara's background, the story from her childhood and her parent's deaths.
The acting wasn't amazing and some of the characters seemed very...bland. Natalie Dormer saved this in my opinion by being an engaging presence.
The fact that this forest actually exists and is known for suicides also felt very chilling to me. For the first horror release of the year, I thought it was pretty good. Not the best but definitely worth a watch! Even if just for the beautiful forest scenery shots and the jump scares (which are MUCH better in a theatre setting rather than if you were watching at home).
