Review of The Forest (2016) by Martin R — 10 Jul 2017
This movie is like The Grudge goes to the forest. Only the angry spirits have 'Resident Evil'-esque speed. Dissapointing, unoriginal and uncompelling As Evil can just appear anywhere and kill, and cannot be fought, it is not frightening - just mean spirited and callous.
The early scenes are spooky and the film establishes some tension; but it fails to deliver on any potential. Natalie Dormer is decent and you want to root for her - but she is not a Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver, or Sarah Michelle Gellar. And she is ultimately trapped in a film whose ultimate impression is to be cold and annoying.
