Review of The Forest (2016) by Hunter H — 29 Feb 2016
I will start with the negatives first: there ARE some absurd jump scares here and there. There's a twist that kind of doesn't make sense. Those are my main gripes with this. Now for the positives: I thought the premise was interesting.
I thought the acting was good (especially for a horror movie, let alone one that comes out in JANUARY!), and you really do care for Sara (Natalie Dormer), and you are interested in her search for her missing sister Jess (ALSO Natalie Dormer; so fans of Game of Thrones, particularly of her, you get to see both sides of the coin with her in THIS movie.
.. that's the best way I can put how the story is resolved without spoiling it). It's interesting to learn that the actual forest IS an actual forest, and it makes you want to look it up later (or at least it did me, because I've been seeing A LOT of true story-type movies lately!).
Another positive, but this is mainly for ME: I thought this was WAAAAAY BETTER than the first horror movie I saw LAST year (2015): The Lazarus Effect. It's MUCH better than THAT, because I felt this at least TRIED.
