Review of The Forest (2016) by Nels D — 17 Aug 2016
The Forest isn't as bad as most critics are making it out to be. It is not as bad as past January horror films. This one is competently directed and has some sense of tension and suspense throughout.
And the lead performance from Natalie Dormer is decent enough. What does hold the film back is an unwelcome amount of jump scares at times and an underwhelming ending. But The Forest is overall a horror film that was expected to be terrible but was overall pretty okay.
It's no masterpiece or anything but it's a passable horror film and it's an okay watch if you have nothing else to do on a rainy day. Not too shabby of a start to 2016 when compared to past years.
