Review of The Foreigner (2017) by Cork B — 26 Feb 2018
It was worth a rental video. It is REALLY hard to NOT like a Jackie Chan movie (I feel the same way about John Cusack even though he has made some stinkers - check out Dragon Blade).
This movie is very schizophrenic - I felt like I was watching 2 movies. One was a boring Irish political 'thriller' where Irish people are just nasty to each other, and the other was Jackie kicking butt. I enjoyed the later, but even then, the story seemed kinda slapped together. Apparently Jackie is a Chinese guy who was attacked by Thai pirates while going to Singapore. Becomes a US soldier fighting in Vietnam, and then ends up in Britain fighting Irish people. Huh? And Jackie kind of switches between morose and Kermit the Frog style flailing on people - that part was actually pretty funny. He makes some cool home made bombs and stuff too.
Jackie looks a little rough in the poor lighting. I hope that was just makeup!
