Review of The Forbidden Kingdom (2008) by Max A — 07 Aug 2010

Looks good on paper with 2 kung fu legend pairing up. Overall is still quite entertaining. The action isn't the usual standard. Michael Angarano dream of Sun Wukong (Jet Li) and then wake up. He is a big fan of HK kung fu movies.

He always go to a shop to get dvd from Jackie Chan. Michael saw a staff in his store and Jackie told him he is waiting for the one to return it to the rightful owner. One day some bullies want Michael to go to the shop at night and they rob his shop.

The bully shot Jackie. He give the staff to Michael and is chase to a rooftop. Then he begin to fly and descend. Next moment he wake up in ancient China. A group of soldiers attack the village and saw him, force him to hand over the staff.

Jackie Chan come over and save him. He even know english! At the inn, he told him something must have bring him here. He tell the story of monkey god Sun Wukong to Michael. Wukong go to the jade emperor pary uninvited but emperor is amuse by his attics.

The general (Collin Chou) isn't and challenge him. He trick Wukong to fight fist to fist then quickly turn him into stone. Wukong send the staff away. Soldiers came to get the duo and Liu Yifei save Michael when he is about to jump down.

Michael want Jackie to teach him kung fu. They must go to the 5 elements mountain to free Wukong. Then Jet Li took the staff and hide in the temple. Jackie fight with him and both evenly match. Later he know Jet is good guy and that Michael is the one he looking for.

Liu parents are kill by Collin that's why she wants revenge. Li Bingbing the evil witch send to kill them fight with them. They escape by horses and she shoot an arrow and strike Jackie. The only way to revive him is the elixir which Collin have.

Jet told Michael they will go to get it from jade emperor 2 days later but he didn't heed and surrender to Collin alone. Since Li reward is the elixir, Collin suggest both fight to the death to get it.

Off course he isn't her match. Then Jet & Liu come to rescue him. Liu vs Li and Jet vs Collin. The jostling make the elixir end up at Jackie and he is revive and fight Li. He defeat her and she fell down the cliff.

Jet sacrifice his life to pass the staff to Michael who revive Sun Wukong. Jet turn out to be a hair body double of him. Liu throw the jade dart to kill Collin but it deflect and she got a blow from him.

Wukong strike him fly to Michael who hold the dart and kills him. Liu die unfortunately. The jade emperor grant Michael's wish to go home. He return to the state he is in and wallop the bully big time.

Jackie is send to hospital and Michael saw Liu who works across the street. Liu Yifei and Li Bingbing are really beautiful.
