Review of The Forbidden Kingdom (2008) by Frederick S — 12 Feb 2012
A Kung Fu-inspired fairy tale for kids. A boy travels from today into the past to deliver the magic fighting staff to the monkey king held prisoner by the evil Jade General in order to cancel his enchantment that had turned him into a stone.
The fighting monk Jet Li, the beautiful and skillful dart-thrower Liu Yifei (Sparrow) and the immortal ever-drunken tramp Jackie Chan help the boy to save the monkey king and also to become a Kung Fu fighter.
An ample bunch of fights leaves a good overall impression regardless of the uneventful plot and poor composition of the dialogues (just listen how often the word 'jade' is used).
