Review of The Foot Fist Way (2006) by Jack C — 03 Apr 2009
Taekwondo literally translated into English is foot, fist way and "The Foot Fist Way" probably doesn't do a lot for the promotion of the sport. Set in the strip-malls of North Carolina the films charts the story of a taekwondo instructor undergoing some personal issues.
Step in Danny McBride who after performances in "Pineapple Express" and "Tropic Thunder" is fast becoming the hottest comedy talent out there. This is his first major role and he plays a great character, full of pride, aggression, insecurities and kick-ass moves.
Fair enough, he's kind of following the Will Ferrell school of acting but it's such a niche character that it stands above any comparison. It's an instantly quotable film with some great great lines, as well as a quite dark little streak.
With director Jody Hill moving on to "Observe and Report" (which looks equally as dark in the trailer) this film could be a catalyst for some sweet comedy action. This film side kicked me right in my funny bone and I loved it.
