Review of The Foot Fist Way (2006) by Dave C — 09 May 2009
An intriguing directorial debut that suffers from what seems to be an unclear vision. It has a few really hilarious moments, but overall is simply under-realized. Danny McBride is a god damn riot as the biggest asshole he's ever played. Yes, Fred Simmons is even worse than Kenny Powers. Unlike Kenny Powers, Simmons lacks the emotional hook or complexities that make Powers so darkly compelling and side-splittingly hilarious all at once.
The Foot Fist Way sets the foundation for Jody Hill's next two brilliant endeavors (Observe and Report/Eastbound and Down), but can't fully sustain itself despite a few gut-busters.
