Review of The Fog of War (2003) by M T — 28 Jun 2004
The Fog Of War: Eleven Lessons From the Life Of Robert S. McNamara won the Oscar 2004 for Best Documentary. I'd heard a lot about this documentary before, lots of praise, but it took me really this long until I finally got the movie. It's not gonna be available in Germany before August this year also.
I must say, this movie is quite some tough stuff to watch. When I first started watching it I didn't have the patience to listen closely, so I waited until a day on which I didn't have anything else to deal with to be able to sit down and watch the movie in full length really listening. I think it's not a story you can just watch, you should really take the time to listen. This is not meant to be entertaining in any way, it's pure information and conclusion.
The film is about the former US Secretary of Defence, Robert S. McNamara, and the various lessons he learned about the nature and conduct of modern war partly by making his own mistakes. I think it is great, I admire the honesty of this documentary. I thank Robert S. McNamara for this project and having spoken openly.
