Review of The Fog of War (2003) by Tim R — 01 Aug 2004
DIAGNOSIS: Good!
The Fog of War is a movie detailing the life of Robert McNamara and his career as advisor to both President Kennedy and Johnson. The film involves an extensive narrative provided by McNamara himself which serves as a focus and narrative for the entire documentary.
This movie is for anyone interested in what it takes to think strategically about war, or anyone interested in McNamara's involvement in the Cuban Missile Crisis or the Vietnam War. Also, this film informed me like never before about the extent of damage done to Japan during World War II, at which time McNamara served as a strategist.
I really enjoyed this movie and the main reason is McNamara himself. He has a very distinct air about him, and despite being in his mid-eighties, he is very coherent and energetic.
Since the film is about McNamara and McNamara is such an interesting individual and the filmmakers do such a good job of capturing his presence, the film succeeds.
