Review of The Fog (2005) by Adam R — 10 Feb 2011
Even those who haven't seen the original "The Fog" (I haven't) can find a lot to despise about this remake.
First, was anyone clamoring for an update to a lesser-praised John Carpenter film with TV teen actors (Tom Welling, Maggie Grace) as the stars? Was anyone pulling for yet-another tedious PG-13 horror film in general? Was anyone hoping against hope that Selma Blair (hot off of her forgettable contribution to the mess that was "Hellboy") would appear in another movie?
Although "The Fog" is yet another carcinogen contributing to the malignant tumor that is the horror-remake genre (or just remakes in general, by and large), there is one thing that can be said in its favor: It's a reminder of worse days. At least now, thanks to gleefully bloody and exploitative takes on the likes of "Friday the 13th" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street," we have gore and nudity in our watered-down takes on horror classics past, rather than this failed-pilot-on-the CW crap.
