Review of The Fly II (1989) by Robert H — 02 Sep 2015
An uninspired but very decent sequel to Cronenberg's classic, this follow up concerns Seth Brundle's rapidly growing son who is being raised and studied in a government facility with literally the worst fucking security ever, and played by "nearly Marty McFly" Eric Stoltz.
The first two thirds are a bit of a drag, aside from the incredibly upsetting mutated dog, but then the final half hour or so of the film is an explosion of nastiness. There is a truly mean spirited feel to the movies graphic gore, especially the dudes face being melted off, vicious bastard Frank (The Mist, The Green Mile) Darabont's fingerprints are all over it.
So it dose spend much of it's time as a dull retread of sorts but onece it gets going it's a disgusting, violent treat for gore hounds and horror fans, with great creature effects to boot. Well worth checking out.
