The Fly II is of course nowhere near as fabulous as it's predecessor "The Fly", but it's still a damn fine movie..
This one follows the story of BrundleFly & Ronnie's child from the previous film. His growth is advanced, giving him the physical, mental and emotional levels of an adult at the age of 5. I won't give anymore about the plot away, as there truly isn't much to spoil..
At any rate, it is not deep like "The Fly". There is no social commentary, except perhaps that humans treat each other very, very wrongly for the sake of greed, which is a dead horse that has been beaten, flogged, pissed on, kicked, poked with sticks, and roasted over an open flame in a million other movies..
It IS very fun to watch though. The effects are good, except that MartinFly's face is somewhat bizarre looking. It almost looks lizard-ish..
There are also some plot holes, namely that Martin should look more human and less fly once he mutates, since his mother was soley human and his father was half human. However, he is larger and more insect-like than BrundleFly, so this makes no sense..
If you can believe it, this movie actually has a happy ending(For Martin), which is where it primarily departs from "The Fly". In "The Fly", there was no happy ending for ANYONE. Poor Brundle is dead as a doorknob, Stathis has no leg and hand, Ronnie is pregnant with a mutant and I would presume mentally scarred for life. Brundle's research doesn't amount to one whit and by both movies are over it has cost multiple human lives, the life of two(and probably lots more) animals, and a cactus(Don't ask, just watch Fly 2). Depressing, isn't it?.
