Review of The Flowers of War (2011) by Xuanlei Lucy L — 28 Dec 2011
From the perspective of a Chinese, I treasure the movie. I agreed that it is not perfect in many aspects but I can't agree with some who found the film needs to explore the psychological states of Japanese soldiers.
The director just want to illustrate a story as factual as possible, and not as bloody and brutal as possible. It reflects the fear and horror yet great sacrifices that one human being could do for a complete stranger under such a special circumstance.
It echoes the sacrifices Jesus Christ did almost 2000 years ago. This is much bigger than selfishness, greed, and war.
