The Flowers of War, Zhang Yimou'nun Raise the Red Lantern yada Hero'su gibi heyecan uyandirici bir film degil. Hatta oykusu bile uzakdogudan cok bir Amerikan yapimini andiriyor. Yine de atmosfer olarak basarili, Yimou kendini izlettiriyor.
