Review of The Flowers of War (2011) by Narges M — 04 Apr 2012
It's much too long, the characters are black and white and shallow, and the first 30 minutes feels like a totally different movie than the rest. Christian Bale gives a good performance but still his character is not coherent.
The fact that it was nominated for Oscar either implies that no other country was successful in making a decent movie in 2011, or that a Hollywood start plus a good distributor is enough to have it all!
