Review of The Flowers of War (2011) by Crystal E — 23 Nov 2012
One of the most depressing movies I have seen since the Pianist and Schindler's List. Beautifully done in an artful way it's a gut wrenching story that leaves you wondering about if one life is worth another and what ultimate sacrifice really is.
Sure there is a lot of English, unnaturally so, but it was a film for western audiences so let's just push that criticism to the side. It also has a bit of "too good to be true" but don't a great many real life miraculous stories seem that way.
Beautiful and tragic, no happy ending here.
