Review of The Flower of My Secret (1995) by Adam K — 23 Jan 2008
Interestingly, I find this to be one of almodovar's most charming films. it holds its own amount of sadness and sorrow in its main character, but each character presented is charming, funny and memorable in their own way.
juan echanove's playing as angel was perfectly cast. everything about him fit the character. his style, his look, his personality, it was like watching a spanish rob reiner. chus lampreave and rossy de palma were perfect as the mother and daughter pair with their constant arguments and bickering, giving the script some very fun moments.
by the time we reach our finale, things arrived a bit abrupt, but all aspects were clearly resolved in a fashionable manner (minus the completely random subplot about the doctors and the grieving mother which reminded me a lot of a david lynch film).
all in all, this is another memorable work to add to the almodovar collection.
